morning oh you're still in your pajamas and it's show day you can't decide what to wear now that's a problem i understand oh i guess i've been thinking so much since i got up this morning that i forgot to get dressed what's on your mind my alien friend i keep thinking about making a movie i think i'd really like to try but i don't know how or what i need or what it should look like or or how to learn now that's a lot of questions before breakfast but you're right being a director is a big job and it needs a plan and you know all good plans start with a deep breath right so here's what i know about making art no matter what kind of art or how much you know about it it's all about balance balance yeah you know that feeling that things are kind of equal or they at least even out everything needs balance take food when cynthia's got a big pot of her gumbo on the stove she's putting in a bunch of ingredients a little okra some celery some onions bell pepper you know a lot of stuff but it's still balanced so it all tastes good together she doesn't throw in a coconut or chocolate cake or tomato or even too much salt into that pot it throws a whole gumbo off balance right so you really want to make a movie but you have absolutely no idea how yeah um yes so your heart is full of desire but your head is totally empty of knowledge well it's not totally empty well you need balance zig you need to keep adding new information about movie making into your head until you have enough in there to balance out that desire of yours so you stop thinking about movies and you start making them i don't get it well because you're not balanced oh nick i need your help this time man i can't get right dude one side's too i must say you do look sharp the perfect balance between charming gentlemen and proper serious business person oh thanks man man that helps i i'm just nervous about my speech and the city council's vote i just don't want us to be zoned ub40 i have to shut down your speech is going to be great river just like in the movies i've been watching with jack you'll see he's right you're fantastic for this you'll do a fantastic job now go out there and convince that city council to vote junkyard junkyard junkyard oh man thanks for the pep talk guys i'm off wish me luck ziggy i need you the kids from the neighborhood are coming to help us with the benefit and we need to meet them at the gate with well all on friends go go showtime is almost upon us hey action more ziggy it's a great day for an outdoor show not too hot not too cold did the kids from pleasant valley get here yet not yet but when they do i figure we'll have prudence and eleanor work on tech since they've done it before love it and we'll have bob o'reilly help greet people at the ticket booth that child can make winter feel welcome at easter supper so all the kids will have jobs for the benefit oh yes but i've found that when it's a project people are excited about they want to help hey everybody your stage manager's here who's ready to put on a show hi todd glad you're here i'm not sure if you've met ziggy yet no not yet hi i'm todd henry hi i'm ziggy it's nice to meet you todd i think nick is in the band space waiting for you and picking out a scarf for tonight he would dress the rats in the junkyard if he could [Music] [Applause] wow [Music] nice of the junk truck not to deliver any junk today helps to have more space for the benefit tonight i went ahead and had jack connect the lights on the stage do you need lights to make a movie sure lighting is an important part of making a movie you can make a scene dark in mostly shadows so the scene feels scary or add lots and lots of light until the scene feels unnatural this benefit is all coming together and i saw the mighty quinn yesterday setting up the sound system so all the microphones on the stage should work now do you need microphones when you're making a movie if there's sound in the movie and you want to hear the sound siggy you have movies on the brain and why are you still in your pajamas i'm almost ready i promise no worries it's just a show just don't be naked i mean anything that covers will do i mean have you tried the curtains oh hey ziggy hi mr henry hi nick hi zig he's getting dressed and well maybe you should too unless it's pajama day he's setting up for his first movie really what type of movie i'm a director too you know i mean i mostly direct stage plays not films but a director's a director right oh absolutely um but what is a director a director is the artist that puts all the pieces together to make sure something happens either play or movie um you know they have to balance all of it the idea the actors the crew the equipment everything directors are kind of like jugglers keeping it all moving the show must go on wow nick you look fabulous yeah and now it's your turn zig we need to get you looking fabulous for tonight and then you need to search our junkyard for your movie camera oh absolutely i mean when you're a director with your own movie all you need is a camera all right nick now let's go set the equipment up on the stage aye aye director wow [Music] hi mom it's not bedtime yet but i'm so excited i just had to tell you i found a video camera i'm gonna make a movie i'm gonna be a director which is an artist who puts all the pieces of a movie together so they come together and make a movie that's balanced can you believe even art can have balance so everything in it feels like it evens out the arts are so neat tonight we're having a benefit show here at the junkyard so people can give the money to make a community art center that's a place where art happens in the community there will be lots of musicians here tonight and dancers and actors doing part of a shakespeare play and there's an art gallery by the front gate and the band is going to play on the roof i wish you could see it all oh i could use my camera it could be my first movie just for you so you could share how amazing all this feels that's it i'm gonna make a movie tonight okay i i gotta go i'll see more soon bye support provided by
